About Us
PDA is a multi-faced non-governmental women-led organization established in 2008 by a group of Somali women and youth professionals to address the underlying humanitarian challenges and development gaps bedeviling Somalia. PDA’s core focus areas are the promotion of Human Rights and Democratic Governance, Water and Sanitation (WASH), Nutrition, Protection, Education, Conflict Resolution, Emergency Response, Resilience, Food Security and Livelihoods and Strengthening Peace and Stability through Research and Community Dialogue, Youth Empowerment, Civic Education and Community Awareness Raising towards Gender Equity and applying non-violent mechanisms of Conflict Management.
PDA works for civilians in armed conflict, prioritizing neglected and hard-to-reach areas where access to assistance is limited, and increasingly supports people displaced by natural disasters, the adverse effects of climate change and generalized violence. The organization listens to people in need and collaborates with local organizations and communities to deliver a response that is solutions-orientated and tailored to the context. PDA’s main office is at KM5 (Zobe Area), Hodan District, Banadir, Somalia, with operational presence in Jowhar, Beledweyne, Cadaado, Hobyo and South Galkayo. PDA is registered at the Federal Level in Mogadishu and has all the pre-requisite legal documents to operate in Somalia
